President's Letter

Greetings Compeers,

The Society of American Magicians National Council meeting weekend (November  9-11) in Indianapolis was a truly magical experience.  The National spotlight was shone on our fair city and, in all modesty, our city and our Assembly blazed brightly.  The weather was delightful when the National Officers arrived.  On Friday our Most Illustrious, Chris Bontjes and various other Council members performed for the children at Riley Children’s Hospital and on Saturday following the Council meeting they performed for a Veteran’s Day  held at Beech Grove public library.  Saturday afternoon our Assembly gave the officers a tour of our beautiful downtown followed by a marvelous magic show presented by a representative group of performers from our Assembly:  Don Miller, Barry Rice, Daniel Lee, Christian and Katalina Painter and myself (MC).  They did our Assembly proud.

As a result of everyone’s efforts, it has been announced by John Apperson, National Convention Chairman, that although no contracts are yet signed the 2016 National SAM convention will be held in Indy!  Great job everyone.  A special thanks to: Christian and Katalina for allowing us to use their theater for the show, for acting as tour guide, for taking John Apperson on a special outing to see the Circle Theatre, and for all of their support during the weekend; to Robin Meyer and Jay Newby for transporting the council members to Riley Hospital; to Jim Croop for setting up the performance opportunity at Riley; to Don Miller for producing the Assembly show; to all of the performers at the show; to Taylor Martin for sending out press releases; and to anyone else who worked behind the scenes to make this weekend such a wonderful success.

Magically,
Steven A. Spence
President, S.A.M.  Harry Riser Assembly 31
